The Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center provides a home for students who are undecided on a major. Professional academic advisers engage students in academic, self, and career exploration processes in route to helping students declare a major.
UNL has a multitude of resources to help students explore various major options. Here are just a few tips for getting started
:
- Complete a self-assessment to clarify your interests and skills (contact a career counselor in Nebraska Union room 230, 472-3145, http://www.unl.edu/careers/explore/
- Review the current Undergraduate Bulletin to learn about majors, courses and requirements
- Talk with faculty and students in academic areas of interest
- Take an introductory course in an academic interest, Exploration Course List
- Become involved in student organizations or volunteer for activities related to your interests
- Conduct an informational interview with or shadow a professional in your career area of interest. You can set this up through the Career Services' "Guided Professional Shadowing" (GPS) program
