Professional School Visits (PSVs) are an opportunity for students to connect with professional health and/or law schools of interest.
Why should I do a PSV?
Meeting with a Professional School Visitor will allow you to:
- Get feedback on your competitiveness directly from your programs of interest.
- Establish a relationship with professional schools.
- Ask any questions you have about the school’s program. This is your chance to learn more about the program.
When should I do a PSV?
Anytime. It’s never too early to begin planning for school beyond UNL. Students are encouraged to do a PSV at least once an academic year. We recommend that students take advantage of PSVs frequently to help determine your competitiveness toward your programs of interest.
How are PSVs conducted?
Professional School Visits are done in-person (in the Explore Center, located in Love Library South 127) or virtually. You can check go.unl.edu/psv to view the method of delivery for each visit.
What should I ask in a PSV?
Anything! Some good starter questions include:
- Is my GPA competitive for your program?
- What is the average entrance exam score for your program (if applicable)?
- How many shadowing hours do you recommend/require?
- What student involvement, leadership, work, or volunteer activities are strongly encouraged?
- What makes your program stand out from others?
- How do students typically finance their education?
- What else can I do to be a competitive applicant for your program?
- Ask any questions you have about prerequisites, transfer credits, etc.
How do I prepare for a PSV?
- Have your resume & transcript ready to share.
- Formal attire is not required, but be mindful of how you dress as you are representing yourself.
- Meet with an Explore Center advisor to brainstorm questions prior to your meeting.
- Make sure you show up! No-showing an appointment is a bad first impression as recruiters remember that.
