Professional School Visits (PSVs) are an opportunity for students to connect directly with admissions representatitves from professional health and law programs. Use these conversations to learn about programs, ask questions, get feedback on your preparation, and explore whether a school may be a good fit for you.
Why should I sign-up for a PSV?
Meeting with a Professional School Visitor will allow you to:
- Learn what makes a program unique and whether it may be a good fit.
- Ask questions directly that may not be answered online.
- Get feedback on your preparation and competitiveness.
- Learn what you can do now to strengthen your future application.
- Build professional connections with schools you may consider applying to.
When should I sign-up for a PSV?
Anytime! It’s never too early to begin planning for school beyond UNL.
We encourage students to participate in PSVs throughout their undergraduate experience—not just when they are ready to apply. Consider completing a PSV at least once each academic year with programs you are interested in.
How are PSVs conducted?
PSVs are offered in person or virtually. They typically range from 15-20 minutes in length.
- In person: Explore Center, Love Library South 127.
- Virtual: Meeting information will be provided when you register.

How do I prepare for a PSV?
Before: Review the program website, have your resume and transcript ready, and prepare questions. Meet with an Explore Center advisor if you’d like help.
During: Arrive/log in a few minutes early. Be engaged and professional and make sure to take notes!
After: Write down what you learned and any next steps.
What should I ask in a PSV?
Come prepared with 3-5 questions that will help you learn more about the program and your own preparation.
About the program and application:
- What makes your program different from others?
- What are common mistakes applicants make?
- What do you look for in a strong applicant?
- What opportunities are available for research, leadership, or clinical experiences?
About your competitiveness:
- Is my academic profile competitive for your program?
- Beyond GPA and test scores, what stands out in successful applicants?
- What should I focus on now to strengthen my future application?
About preparation and experiences:
- What experiences are valued? Some areas to mention:
- Clinical
- Shadowing
- Research
- Volunteer
- Work
- Leadership
- Are there prerequisites or academic requirements students often overlook?
- What experiences do you recommend before applying?
Most importantly: Commit to your appointment!
PSV appointments are limited opportunities for students to connect directly with professional school representatives. If you register, please make every effort to attend.
If your plans change, cancel as soon as possible so another student can take your spot. No-showing can make a negative first impression, particularly if you may apply to that program in the future.
